AIJA 8th Annual Arbitration Conference 2016

Nancy M. Thevenin was a speaker at the 2016 Annual Arbitration Conference of the International Young Lawyers’ Association (AIJA), which will take place on October 6-8, 2016 in New York City. The topic of the conference was “Strategic Choices in International Arbitration.” The focus of the panel on which Ms. Thevenin spoke was “Choices in Organizing the Procedure” and touched upon drafting an effective arbitration clause, the best approach for the first procedural conference, bifurcation, Calderbank-type offers, summary judgments and emergency arbitrators.

Nancy M. Thevenin was a faculty member at the first organized New York Branch CIArb Accelerated Route to Fellowship course held in New York City. The course, held at the New York International Arbitration Centre, included over 24 participants from the U.S., Singapore, Turkey and Nigeria.

ABA International Section Spring Meeting

Nancy M. Thevenin was a speaker at the American Bar Association International Section Spring Meeting in New York City on a panel entitled, “The Role of Mediation in Resolving U.S. Claims Against Cuba,” which provided an in-depth discussion and analysis on the legal and practical obstacles the U.S. claims against Cuba may present to U.S. investments and commerce there. She spoke on a panel entitled “Hot Topics in International Arbitration,” which covered recent changes to international institutional arbitral rules, the use of constitutional writs, as well as the use of the doctrines of forum non conveniens and personal jurisdiction to block enforcement of arbitral awards.
